Vintage Sports Cars at Lime Rock

A few months ago I photographed the VSCCA races at Lime Rock Park in Connecticut. I had with me one of my Leica IIIcs with the Summitar mounted. Though I shot primarily in B&W, it was the first time I’d used that setup with color film, in this case Portra 160. It was a test of sorts, so I only shot one roll, but it’s a very interesting combination – I was quite pleased with the look.

These are fairly unique shots, in that Lime Rock was in the midst of a massive construction project which left the paddock areas temporarily unpaved. The idea of these vintage race cars rumbling across dirt and gravel added a little more atmosphere to these shots, all taken in and around the paddock near the track entrance.

I’ll post a few of the monochrome shots (and maybe an on-track photo or two), from both the Leica and my Canon L1, shortly.

Camouflage perfectly suited for its environment if you ask me. Not that the gulls are exactly subtle around the docks….
