As you may have noticed, things have been quiet around here for a while. A combination of things are responsible for this; aside from just being busy, my gear accumulation has slowed considerably, giving fewer such things to write about. I’m also in the midst of creating a site more specifically dedicated to my work, which means that this site will remain, but will be more focused on gear, techniques, and my general ramblings rather than photos – again, this means less material to post here. I’m not intending to let the site die off of benign neglect, but simply to say that the direction has shifted slightly and that posts may be a bit less frequent and more sporadic. That is all.
So I’ve been rather neglectful of this little site of late, or so it might seem. In truth, I was away for a couple weeks, and I made a conscious decision to take August to focus on some other photography-related efforts, notably starting to learn the dark arts of producing decent quality inkjet prints. This is not as easy as it should be, frankly, and as such requires some work to get up and running. The good news is that I’m finally making some headway on that front.
I should also note that, while I have not been posting here, I have been taking new photos. Lots of new photos. I’m still working my way through the 24 rolls of 35mm I shot on vacation, and on top of that I’ve shot 8 rolls of 120 in the last week or two. So there’s plenty to post here, or there will be when I get through the develop/scan/refine process.
To be clear, I’m not losing interest in photography, nor am I not letting the blog die a slow, lingering death. New photos, new musings (the brain never stops churning), new gear introductions (yeah, I know…), and other assorted tidbits will be forthcoming when time permits. For now, I thank you for your patience.
I’ve decided to dump the Monochrome and Color Galleries in favor of smaller, photo-essay driven subdivisions. The former were not being updated regularly, and as such represented disproportionately older work. Related to this, photo-essay posts, such as the recently-published Fading, will be arranged in Gallery-ready slideshow formats on initial publication. I think I’m happier with the presentation of the photos that this setup offers.
I will continue to refine the organization of the Gallery section, as this new arrangement has the potential to become unwieldy over time. None of these constitute major changes I know, but worth noting nonetheless.
